Cassandra and Alex Engaged, Wilmington, DE

On a family trip to San Francisco and California wine country, Alex popped the question! Cassandra said yes and they’re excitedly planning a November 2019 wedding! Cass also just happens to be my younger cousin, so I couldn’t have been more honored when they asked me to capture their engagement photos. The drizzle started to fall and the clouds had rolled in before we started our session but thankfully the rain passed through and we made the most of the gorgeous Brandywine Valley views.

Sweet Autumn Engagement, Middletown, DE

Dinaker slowly realized that there was another roommate in the friends house he kept visiting. Once he realized who this other roommate was, he started paying attention. Eventually though it was Rachel who suggested "hanging out sometime" and it all began there! I love stories like this, where the couple met through friends unexpectedly and slowly simmered into their own love story. Dinaker and Rachel are looking forward to a gorgeous January wedding so we took some time to get in those peak fall colors while we still had them for this session!

Engagement Session, New Castle, DE

Hey friends! I missed yesterday's Monday confessions because it was President's Day and I was crazy with four children at home. We also had a birthday luncheon and then a birthday party so it was a full day! I wish I had magically figured out by now how to be both Mom and business owner in perfect balance, but alas, I have not yet managed that. The lists of things I want to accomplish grow longer instead of shorter, but in the small moments I try to remember what matters.

In that spirit, love matters! I got to shoot a sweet little engagement session over the weekend with Hannah and Caleb. Their story all began when Caleb's sister, who was a friend of Hannah's, asked Hannah if she could give her number to her brother. The rest was history, as they say! These two sweeties are looking forward to a late May wedding in a beautiful country setting. I can't wait!

Fall Engagement Session!

In lieu of monday confessions today, I want to share with you an engagement session close to my heart. This is Ashley, she is Matt's little sister and in turn, is like my little sister. You see, long before Matt and I were ever together, I got to know Ashley as a middle schooler in my Sunday School group at the time. She was shy but always laughed at my jokes, so I knew she was listening :) I even have a sweet ornament she gave me one year that I still hang on my tree as a reminder to me of all that God had planned before I ever even knew what he was up to! I am so thankful I got a sister in her!

As I write this, I have a lump in my throat of happiness for all that lies ahead for Ashley and Kenny as they lead into their wedding next summer. I was honored when they asked me to do some engagement photos for them because knowing I am a part of their wedding party, I won't be able to do the wedding day photos! It is my prayer for them that this time of engagement and preparation for marriage is a sweet time. I pray that they build a foundation of a strong marriage and don't just plan a wedding. I pray that Jesus would draw them close and protect their hearts as they prepare to become man and wife. Ashley and Kenny, I couldn't be happier for you and enjoy these images as a reminder of a special time in your lives! Love you! (And of course the photographer in me couldn't get enough of the golden light and beautiful autumn scenery :)

Spring Engagement Shoot

I love when I meet with clients for the first time and we just know we will work well together. This has definitely been the case with Mike and Jes, who are planning a fall wedding! We went back and forth about the engagement session, pretty much me trying to convince Mike that it wouldn't be painful! I think the best thing that happens after an engagement session for me is when the future groom says, "that really wasn't so bad!" The whole idea behind the engagement session is to both capture this beautiful season of life, while also giving just a bit of practice and reassurance for the wedding day!

We had a beautiful shoot in the spring blooms in Historic New Castle, which even included their fur babies, Alden and Wesley! I am very much looking forward to capturing their wedding later this year! Enjoy...

Friday Engagement!

We have made it through another week my friends and I am excited to share some of this engagement session with you! Ashley and Adam are getting married later this year at Rockwood Carriage House and I couldn't be more excited to photograph their engagement and wedding! They are such a sweet couple that bonded over thier love of Jesus, music, and good coffee among other things. The rain held off and we had a lovely time shooting in historic Dover, Delaware. Enjoy friends!

Won't she make a gorgeous bride?!

Chesapeake City Engagement

If you know anything about this time of year, it's gorgeous on the Maryland bay and canals! This past weekend was no exception, although it was still a bit of a hotter day, we made the most of it! Will and Taylor plan on being married next summer in this same location so we wanted to grab a little bit of the Chesapeake City spirit to capture their engagement. Hope you enjoy the images and have a great weekend friends!

Lets start with the bling!

Although lighting was a little bright, we wanted to grab an image or two with the marina!

This will be part of the setting for the wedding...

Wardrobe change and some fun images with their wedding date!

Engagement, Love is in the Air!

On a warm early summer afternoon Krystle, Mike, and I met up at the John Tyler Arboretum to take their engagement photos. Their love for one another is evident and I am thankful to be able to capture it both now and on their 2014 wedding day! Enjoy!

Fall engagement session...better late than never?!

So I know I have done a lot of talking about taking "off" in Dec but mostly what I was trying to do was to get new obligations off my plate so I could get caught up on a few things. Just for the record, I am ALWAYS happy to connect with clients, answer questions or inquiries so please never hestitate to contact me! Anywho...I realized that I had a few sessions from the fall madness that I never shared.

Here's just a small handful from a session this past October. Nicole described their style as little bit country and we had fun making their style come to life. Nicole had some cute ideas via Pinterest that she wanted to try. I am all for creating our own versions of images that clients love on Pinterest. Best of luck planning to Luke & Nicole! I cannot wait for their July 2013 wedding!

A Fall Engagement

I have to say that other than a hurricane, this autumn has been beautiful with many warm, sunny days! When Jeanette and I scheduled her engagement shoot a couple months back, we had no idea what mid-November would be like but thankfully, it was a beautiful day with some trees still hanging on to those pretty leaves! I always love getting to meet and interact with new clients and these two were no excpetion.

Jeanette shared her and Joe's story with me of how they met,

"We met two years ago in a little resturant/bar. I was out with my friends for a girlfriends birthday and I spotted Joe from across the room.  I pointed to Joe and told my friend "he's going to be my next boyfriend".  Apparently that night Joe called "dibs" on me to his buddies, which according to guy slang is he basically says the girl is off limits to everyone but him.  I eventually got the nerve to ask Joe what his name was when he passed me, we talked for a brief moment and then he actually left to buy me a chocolate covered strawberry.  That night I gave him my phone number and we have talked/been together ever since."

Great right?! Love hearing these stories and being able to capture a couple's engagement time.

Have a great weekend friends!

Fabulous Friday Engagement!

Nicole is part of the Lovely Girls event planning services in Wilmington. She has an eye for details and is a professional in the wedding industry, what more could a photographer ask for?! She and Eric gave me lots of laughs as we captured their engagement last weekend in Bellevue State Park. The weather sort of held out for us, with a rain shower here and there. I have to say, we had lots of fun! Best of luck you two!!

A personal favorite from the day!

Did I mention the dogs were along for the ride?! We had to tie them to various things to keep them at bay, but it actually helped at times because the dogs would do something to make Nicole and Eric look away, distracting them from my presence!

Hair and Makeup by Gloss Salon, Newark.

Christine and Jack, crazy fun shoot!

I love getting to meet new people, it's a great perk of my job. Christine contacted me a few weeks ago in hopes of setting up an engagement shoot. She had written in her initial email, "What really drew me to contact you was not only your photos but all of the kind words others had said about you." I was instantly humbled because here was a potential client who not only liked my work but was drawn to me as a person, she took the time to check out my website and about me. This was starting our relationship off on a great foot and of course as soon as I met Christine and Jack in person, it was all good. Besides being adorable, Christine is very sweet and bubbly and I could see why Jack took a liking to her the first time they met. He confessed to "falling fast" for her, as they shared their story with me during our shoot.

I also have to say that I love being a natural light photographer. This shoot was FULL of lighting/weather surprises as you will see and nothing was artificially lit. I don't have anything against artificial light and sometimes need it, but there ain't nothing prettier than a gorgeous evening glow...or in this case a wicked thunderstorm to go with it! All the best to Christine and Jack, so much fun meeting you!

(And of course, I definitely want to thank all of my previous clients for writing kind words section of my website!)

Outfit number one...just getting warmed up!

Outfit Change...sun is going down....

Christine totally has an inner-super model...she works it well!

And then the storm rolled in...I was loving every minute of the crazy! This sweet couple just rolled with it too and had a blast, despite the wickedness rolling in over our heads. I secretly think Christine talked to the weather gods in order to coordinate their outfits with the awesome colors of storm clouds :)

We took this one for mom with a more formal pose but somehow I hope that this image gets looked at some day by their grandkids. I absolutely love it!

Last shot of the evening and a great way to end..the thunder and lightning were so close we thought we better take cover!

Nikki & Danny, Engagement contest winners!

Remember their story from our Love Is In the Air Contest earlier this year? They met when they were 15, but it wasn't happily ever after. Nikki wasn't officially allowed to date yet but they snuck in a friendly double-movie "date" at her house. Nikki's mom, clad in her flannel duck PJ's caught them smooching on the porch and according to Nikki, "my mom first and middle named me while Danny took off running into the snow." Fast forward lots of time, up and downs, and here we are today with them happily engaged and looking forward to a 2014 wedding date!

Thanks to all of you, the readers of the blog who chose this couple for me to capture. We literally had to reschedule 3 different times due to the crazy summer/stormy weather we have had this year. It was either 110 degrees or thunder and lightning. It was fine with me though because the Sunday evening we finally met up for the shoot, it was nice and breezy (or at least felt that way without the intense heat!) Danny apparently was joking that every time we rescheduled that he had more time to practice his "America's next top model eyes," but it ain't no joke....he definitely had the eyes down! I really genuinely enjoyed being around these two and capturing their love! Enjoy the epic post friends and start thinking of who you want to see enter the contest next February?!

There's those Top Model eyes..

What I am working on...

I love what happened at last night's shoot...the weather went crazy on us! It was great light and fun to capture and I just wanted to share a quick sneak peek of what I am working on next (among other things)!

Allie & Les, a Philadelphia Engagement

They met on sort of a lark thanks to a friend, isn't that always the way?! Who knew it would lead to a wedding! I have known Allie for a few years now and she is a sweetheart. We met up for our session in Rittenhouse Square last week when it had finally cooled off for a little bit. We started there and the light was gorgeous and the energy of the city was evident. We then moved to the famed "boathouse row" at Philadelphia's Farimount Park. We had such a blast and a special thanks to Allie's mom and sis who came along to style/assist in any way needed. I could get used to having such a good looking entourage :) Allie and Les, can't wait for your February wedding!

Something about this one, I just love. It's a fav for sure!

The Winner is... (& a few Monday Crush Confessions)

Let me just say that you all made the engagement contest a fierce competition! I love that our couples were so involved and got friends to participate! I loved watching the over 600 votes literally from all over the world and even the occassional comment in Dutch (Sara & Aron, I will need a translation for those :)! This just proves that I have the best clients! I also have to say that I just loved getting to hear each couples love story. There is something about hearing how two people were brought together that always gets me! I wish each couple the very best with their engagement and wedding day!

This brings me to the part you want to know, which is that the winners are Nikki and Danny from Delaware. Congrats you too! Can't wait until our session!

Thought that this might be perfect for the next installment of my CRUSH CONFESSIONS, since we are talking about love and all!

1. I have a crush on traveling to be with other photographers! I am a bit jealous of all the cool kid photographers headed to WPPI in Vegas this week! I vow that when I don't have a child less than a year old or I am not prego, I will go :) Lets cross our fingers for next year! (No prego comments please :)

2. I have a girl crush on Adele. Seriously, who doesn't? I also have a crush on piano music. Wish someone would've made me learn to tap those ivories, I really love it!

3. I have a crush on the sun! It apparently will be visiting us a lot this week and almost 60 degree weather is in the forecast. In February in DE that is major!

4. Hawaii-five-WHO?! My Alex O'Laughlin crush has been majorly replaced by Colby from Top Shot. I think I might have drooled watching it with the hubs last night. I know, that's not even right! I think there's just something about a man with aviators & a weapon (as long as it's not pointed at you of course)! It also made me want to go target shooting, all peoples gun & moral issues aside, shooting is a GREAT SPORT! Apparently, Colby was a runner up on Survivor in Australia, I haven't seen a season of Survivor since the very first one, but I guess I was missing out!

In case you don't know who I am talking about,

5. My smut TV crush, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills!!! They might "have it all" but reminds me how that doesn't always add up to much without love and family! You can still have major issues in your size 2 designer dress and Louboutin heels. You do start to get favorites and root for certain people. I even follow a few of them on twitter to see what they are up to...don't hate :)

Suzi & Charlie Engaged!

They met when he started frequenting where she worked as a server, just goes to show you never really know when your "forever" might walk through the door! Suzi and Charlie are happily engaged to be married next September. We had a blast out in Fair Hill, MD for this engagement session.

We also had fun figuring out that we actually all knew each other already. I thought that this was just a simple "internet hookup" but we realized that Charlie and I knew each other for a brief time in college when he wrestled for UD. Suzi and I figured out that she was serving at a country club the same day I was working one of my very "memorable" weddings that included a bar fight! Yes...you read that right, bar fight between grown men... good times :) Enjoy!
