Beautiful Summer Bride

It’s August over here and I am hanging on for the ride with a busy wedding month, the kids still trying to savor the rest of summer and me trying to find a balance! Here’s a sneak peak of the gorgeous bride from the wedding I am working on editing today. I am now booking for family fall photo sessions, emily@emilytroutmanphoto.com for pricing and availability for fall!

Cassandra and Alex Engaged, Wilmington, DE

On a family trip to San Francisco and California wine country, Alex popped the question! Cassandra said yes and they’re excitedly planning a November 2019 wedding! Cass also just happens to be my younger cousin, so I couldn’t have been more honored when they asked me to capture their engagement photos. The drizzle started to fall and the clouds had rolled in before we started our session but thankfully the rain passed through and we made the most of the gorgeous Brandywine Valley views.

July Bride, Summer Delaware Wedding

When we met in the coffee shop in the middle of winter, and I just knew Jen would make a beautiful bride! Her bubbly and sweet personality is genuine, which was made apparent by all the wedding guests young and old who adore Jen! It was easy to see why she and David made a good match. I loved hearing their plans for a small wedding party with a simple, sweet church reception. We had no idea when we discussed their July wedding, that we would wake up to such a gorgeous day of weather after a heat wave! We were all so thankful for the mild weather, allowing us to capture outdoor portraits without feeling entirely melted. Here's just a small selection for you to enjoy from their wedding day!

Beautiful Bride, Styled Shoot

"To do the useful thing, to say the courageous thing, to contemplate the beautiful thing: that is enough for one man's life. " - T. S. Eliot

These cold and dreary winter days have me dreaming of warmer temps, and contemplating the beautiful.  I thought I would take a few minutes today to share a beautiful bride from a styled shoot I was a part of, the beautiful Camille!

Groom Details are important too!

As we roll into a new year and we are in the middle of the biggest engagement season of the year,  I thought I would share some ways to capture the grooms details that are important. Obviously brides get much deserved attention on the wedding day, but the groom has some things he will want to remember as well! As you prepare for your or a friends' wedding day, think through if the groom has special cufflinks, gifts for his groomsmen, a gift or letter from the bride, etc. These are the things we don't want to forget because chances are, they were thought about and planned for just as much as the rest of the wedding day!

Tips for fellow photographers:  Try to keep with the color story of the wedding for cohesiveness in the imagery (helps with prints and albums later) and also look around for masculine feeling textures or surfaces. These will help bring the details to life but be a contrast to the usually feminine and light bride's details.

For the record today I am on my third cup of coffee, my kids have only been in school 2 of the last 21 days and it feels like a negative temperature outside. It's Friday and I feel the need to have some sign of productivity and sharing in my life. I feel a little warmer just thinking about wedding season! Images in this post shot by Emily while second shooting for @TracyFleckPhotography in 2017.  If you are recently engaged or might be getting a ring soon, check with me about available wedding dates for 2018.

Sweet Autumn Engagement, Middletown, DE

Dinaker slowly realized that there was another roommate in the friends house he kept visiting. Once he realized who this other roommate was, he started paying attention. Eventually though it was Rachel who suggested "hanging out sometime" and it all began there! I love stories like this, where the couple met through friends unexpectedly and slowly simmered into their own love story. Dinaker and Rachel are looking forward to a gorgeous January wedding so we took some time to get in those peak fall colors while we still had them for this session!

Late Summer Bridal Shower

If you're looking for some inspiration for a late summer bridal shower, look no further! I got to be a part of a beautiful bridal shower honoring the fiancé of my husband's younger brother. It was a perfect weather afternoon with an outdoor setting and all the sweetest details. The blush pinks and golds were a perfect color combination for the brunch. All the creativity, planning and executing credit goes to my mother-in-law! We had all the food setup inside (it's September and the flies are crazy) and then hosted the brunch out in the tent. It was fun to all be together and the countdown to the November wedding is on!

Greg & Anna, Summer Outdoor Wedding, Chadds Ford, PA

Do you knot the old saying that goes something like you like a man even more when you meet his wife? Well this story goes a little something like that for me. Greg was actually the first one I got to chat with on the phone because he and Anna were planning their wedding long distance. They are now Texas residents but their families are still living in Pennsylvania, which is where the wedding was going to be held. I enjoyed chatting about wedding details and made arrangements through Greg first, but then I got the pleasure of meeting Anna. She was so easy to like and I obviously could see why Greg fell for her! She is warm and can light up a room with her smile. She's an elementary school teacher, which makes a good fit with her bubbly personality. Greg is a little more reserved but as soon as he's with Anna, it all just makes sense. Their friends teased them during toasts about their differing personalities, but I can see that opposites attracted here but in the best possible way!

All the details came together beautifully for this warm, July outdoor wedding at the Gables at Chadds Ford. The rustic details and textures paired beautifully with the simple elegance of the rest of the wedding. Greg & Anna had also planned our photo session at Longwood Gardens, which was of course beautiful! It was quite busy on a summer Saturday afternoon but it was the perfect backdrop for their first look and all those formal group shots. Somehow we made it all work and didn't melt! Warning: cuteness overload coming from their flower girl, she loved the camera and it loved her right back! Here's to Anna and Greg's beautiful wedding day! Congrats!

Hannah had a friend that said, "you should meet my brother" and that is where it all began! Hannah met Caleb and their love story began. As the drizzle came and went on the last Sunday in May, nothing could dampen the excitement Hannah and Caleb had for their wedding day. The beautiful details like peonies and rustic farm charm had this wedding feeling like a dream. Their sense of fun and humor was in each detail, even things like the groom's cake topper that read, "I love you like a fat kid loves cake!" We had to duck in and our of rain showers to do some outdoor portraits but I think we were successful!

This image was just a week ago as I arrived at Providence Farm, Salisbury, Maryland.  I was there for the Seasidebride Workshop hosted by Manda Weaver and a handful of others. It was a great time to get away for the night, make new friends, shoot some styled sessions and think about business. It's hard being both a creative and a business person. I can't speak for all creatives but sometimes the "business" part can suck the life right out of me. I have a long business to-do list, including the update of this very website. In the midst though of all the thoughts about what I need to do though, it was good to just shoot for the sake of being creative. I'm still editing much of what we worked on during those couple days and some things are under wraps awaiting submissions but God gifted us all this beautiful sunset as we were leaving last Wednesday evening! It reminded me of the original creator and how we are in his image.

"When you're taking on creativity, you're taking on soul work. This is not about what we do - the is about who we are."

Engagement Session, New Castle, DE

Hey friends! I missed yesterday's Monday confessions because it was President's Day and I was crazy with four children at home. We also had a birthday luncheon and then a birthday party so it was a full day! I wish I had magically figured out by now how to be both Mom and business owner in perfect balance, but alas, I have not yet managed that. The lists of things I want to accomplish grow longer instead of shorter, but in the small moments I try to remember what matters.

In that spirit, love matters! I got to shoot a sweet little engagement session over the weekend with Hannah and Caleb. Their story all began when Caleb's sister, who was a friend of Hannah's, asked Hannah if she could give her number to her brother. The rest was history, as they say! These two sweeties are looking forward to a late May wedding in a beautiful country setting. I can't wait!

Autumn Wedding, Milton, Delaware

I know Monday's are usually for my confessions, but remember last week how I confessed I was a bit stuck in the comparison trap? Well today I am totally stuck in the overwhelmed trap! Every year around this time I swear to myself that I am going to keep my cool, but for a lot of photographers we are heading into the holiday season pretty spent from a busy autumn.

Fall weddings have been on the rise for years now and it's honestly a great thing! I have been wanting to share this beautiful outdoor wedding with you for a bit now! Here's to the other Matt & Emily Troutman (yes there are now two of us :). Although the rain came down a bit over their ceremony, it let up for later and the sun even tried to peak out! The Lavender Fields made the perfect back drop for this wedding!

Delaware Beach Portraits

“The sun and the sand and a drink in my hand with no bottom /

And no shoes, no shirt, and no problems.” - Kenny Chesney

The beach has always been one of my favorite places and Kenny Chesney is usually the perfect sound track to any ocean adventure! I grew up on the Delaware shores between Fenwick and Lewes, depending on the summer. Naturally I am excited when a family contacts me to capture their memories on the beach!

When this beautiful family from NY contacted me in the cold of spring, I could only imagine what July would feel like on the beach. I had the pleasure of doing their large family session while the extended family was all here in DE for vacation over July 4th week. We broke the session down into smaller family groups as well, so not to overwhelm this blog post I will just share a handful! Happy summer!

Fall Wedding Sneak Peek

Just a quick sneak peek from the beautiful fall wedding I photographed over the weekend here in Delaware. It was held the the lovely Montchanin Inn & Spa. We were battling winds and rain, but the time we had for photos went just perfectly!  Congrats to Amanda & Andy who are flying off to their honeymoon today!  (If you need a good restaurant suggestion in the area, Krazy Kats did all the food and it was amazing! When I tell you I never loved a brussell sprout in my life...they changed my opinion on them! Delish!)

Beautiful June Wedding, White Clay Creek Country Club

You truly never know what life will throw at you and being a wedding photographer, my life (especially my summers) can be planned a year in advance due to wedding season. Imagine my surprise last fall when I found out I was expecting a baby in mid-summer and had to think through how I could work my weddings! Thankfully the dates have worked out and I have had amazing couples to work with. This early June wedding was an absolutely beautiful day! Although the wedding took place exactly one mile from the Beau Biden funeral services, there were none of the snags we anticipated!

Ashley & Ryan have such a fun and natural chemistry together. I enjoyed capturing their day and being with their family and guests! Enjoy these selected images from their big day!

Fall Engagement Session!

In lieu of monday confessions today, I want to share with you an engagement session close to my heart. This is Ashley, she is Matt's little sister and in turn, is like my little sister. You see, long before Matt and I were ever together, I got to know Ashley as a middle schooler in my Sunday School group at the time. She was shy but always laughed at my jokes, so I knew she was listening :) I even have a sweet ornament she gave me one year that I still hang on my tree as a reminder to me of all that God had planned before I ever even knew what he was up to! I am so thankful I got a sister in her!

As I write this, I have a lump in my throat of happiness for all that lies ahead for Ashley and Kenny as they lead into their wedding next summer. I was honored when they asked me to do some engagement photos for them because knowing I am a part of their wedding party, I won't be able to do the wedding day photos! It is my prayer for them that this time of engagement and preparation for marriage is a sweet time. I pray that they build a foundation of a strong marriage and don't just plan a wedding. I pray that Jesus would draw them close and protect their hearts as they prepare to become man and wife. Ashley and Kenny, I couldn't be happier for you and enjoy these images as a reminder of a special time in your lives! Love you! (And of course the photographer in me couldn't get enough of the golden light and beautiful autumn scenery :)

Judge Morris Estate Wedding

A few weekends ago I had the pleasure of photographing Jes & Mike's wedding day. The day started off pouring rain so we all held out hope for the rain to clear and thankfully it did! It stayed a little gray and chilly, but nothing could put a damper on this couple's day! I adored all the touches of fall Jes added to the wedding. As always, it was an emotional but beautiful day! Congrats to Jes & Mike! Enjoy the photos!

Southport, NC Wedding

When Danny and Nikki won my "Love is in the air" contest a couple years back, I had no idea all the fun we would eventually have together! They had such a great engagement shoot that we knew we were all a good fit for their wedding day. Their story is so sweet and much more true to life than others. They dated and then broke up. As the seasons changed and they saw other people, they were eventually led back together! They dreamed of a wedding in Southport, NC, the hometown of Nikki's parents and the epitome of Southern beauty and hospitality! I absolutely fell in love with this town! It was the perfect setting for Nikki and Danny to say "I do." There were a lot of moments at this wedding that I was reminded of why I do what I do in capturing memories through the camera!

(If you've seen the movie Safe Haven based on the Nicholas Sparks novel, this was the setting for the movie back in 2009! I admit I watched it again when we got back from our trip so I could see all the places in town in the movie.)

This is a bit of a long post..enjoy!

Spring Engagement Shoot

I love when I meet with clients for the first time and we just know we will work well together. This has definitely been the case with Mike and Jes, who are planning a fall wedding! We went back and forth about the engagement session, pretty much me trying to convince Mike that it wouldn't be painful! I think the best thing that happens after an engagement session for me is when the future groom says, "that really wasn't so bad!" The whole idea behind the engagement session is to both capture this beautiful season of life, while also giving just a bit of practice and reassurance for the wedding day!

We had a beautiful shoot in the spring blooms in Historic New Castle, which even included their fur babies, Alden and Wesley! I am very much looking forward to capturing their wedding later this year! Enjoy...
