Fall Senior Session, Wilmington, DE

Fall of senior year is a super exciting time with college applications, football games and that slight taste of freedom coming with college ahead. Hannah is a sweet spirit with an artistic side and she's exploring her options for art programs in college. I have had the privilege of photographing her family over the last few years and this year it was her turn for a special session! Here's to the class of 2018!

Odessa, Delaware Family Session

Remember this beautiful wedding couple from 2013? They're old friends of mine and I adore the opportunity to photograph their growing family any chance I get! They're expecting a baby boy in the next month and we had a family session to celebrate. Their sweet Della is preparing to be a big sister and will turn two this summer. How cute is she?!

Sweet Benji at 18 Months!

Happy Monday friends! Today I will share a handful of shots that capture my sweet Benji at 18 months old. I shot these last month (because he's already actually 19 months) but I know how the time is fleeting! Matt and I were looking through a lot of old photos and videos over the weekend, which tugged at our heartstrings. It truly is amazing how the days are LONG but the years are so SHORT! We hardly remember much about our twins being babies and welcoming Maxwell only 23 months into parenthood :) We went from no kids to 3 kids in less than 2 years, so we've learned the importance of trying to take photos here and there to remember!

When I tell you this kid is pure joy, we mean it! He's busy and never stops, but his laughter is infectious! We are thankful for this little bundle of personality to bring up the caboose of our family. We all love you Ben! And yes...he's already a huge super hero fan!

"The most precious jewels, you'll ever have around your neck, are the arms of your children." (unknown)

This is my sweet new niece, Penelope Jane and she entered the world just a couple weeks ago! She was about 10 days new at the session. Enjoy all her squishiness, I know I did! Welcome to the family kiddo!

Autumn Family Session, Middletown, Delaware

"I sang of leaves, of leaves of gold, and leaves of gold there grew:

Of wind I sang, a wind there came and in the branches blew."

― J.R.R. Tolkien

I met this adorable family through my husband and was excited when they contacted me about family portraits. We caught the very end of the autumn golden leaves over Thanksgiving break! The sweet boys were such troopers even with the chilly November breeze. I never take for granted the opportunity to capture a family together and there's nothing quite like the warm afternoon glow in the fall to make it the best!

Summer Session, North Carolina

If you have followed me or my life for any amount of time, you know that I love to blog but also it's the first thing to drop when priorities shift. I know there's a million reasons that this isn't smart for business but I also know I am one mom, and a very human one at that. Every day I am sifting through priorities to tackle what has to be done, what should be done and what can potentially wait for another day. Today I am again home with a toddler and a sick coughing kindergartener. This is not exactly a great combination for productivity but at the same time I know that some things must get accomplished if I am going to strive to have a great client experience. I am in the midst of editing, ordering and you guessed it....prepping over due blog posts!

Hopefully this sweet summer session will have you feeling the warmth on this chilly morning! Better late than never right? I can't say enough how much I have LOVED the multi-generational photo sessions I have been a part of this year. For some reason this year, I have had a much bigger group of large family sessions. I adore them because they are an absolute treasure for a family to have!

Here's to Emerald Isle, North Carolina...I miss your warmth, your sun, your ocean and palm trees...can't wait to see you again next year! These are just a FEW favorites from this fun session...

Wilmington, Delaware Autumn Family Portraits

There's truly nothing like a beautiful October afternoon on the East coast is there?! Throw in a new puppy and I am just smitten. These kiddos were thankfully game for throwing leaves and being silly. The internet is this funny place that can either bring people together or push people apart. Thankfully this is an instance of where the internet had a hand in brining this adorable family to me for a photo session! (Thank you local Facebook page where friends recommended me!)

Do you not love her laugh and first grade teeth?! I ADORE it!

Wilmington Delaware, Autumn Family Portraits

We met early in the morning, praying for the rain to hold off! Thankfully our hopes were fulfilled and the rain didn't come until we were pulling out of the parking lot! I have had the privilege of photographing these kiddos every fall since they were 3 and 1. It's been fun to watch them grow each year and hear what they are into. I am thankful for clients who trust me continually to capture their memories!

Monday Confessions, A glimpse into our weekend

Here's a little glimpse into our weekend with Macy's first horse show Saturday and some cookie baking on Sunday!

I confess that I am feeling a bit overwhelmed lately. I tend to feel this way during a busy family and photography season. It's all good things, don't get me wrong, but it's still a mountain of things I feel responsible for. It's the life of all mothers right?! I am trying to do it all with a toddler who is sort of walking and into everything! His latest achievement is being able to open all the doors in our house, heaven help me!

I just finished reading, Rare Bird, and it literally made my heart hurt reading it. I was full on ugly crying at 6:30 in the morning Saturday while reading. Ben was up early and although I love Elmo as much as the next girl, I preferred picking up a book. I do whole heartedly recommend this book but at the same time, read with caution. If you have recently lost a dearly loved one, it might be balm to your soul. It also could crack your heart open into a million pieces if your a mother. It reaches right into all of our deepest fears, yet at the same time promises us God will still be there. It's a small but mighty book. I will not soon forget it or the story of Jack, a brown-eyed boy who loved his legos and God. Read with tissues!!!

So although I feel far less than capable of all the needs and to-do's in my life today, I am going to repeat this truth from Psalm 62 (& go get my free coffee, Go Eagles!),

"I wait quietly before God,
for my victory comes from him.
He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress where I will never be shaken."

Abby & Rachel: cousins, seniors and besties!

I remember back to the autumns of high school and think of chunky sweaters, chilly soccer games and chocolatey hot chocolate! It was such a fun season of life (most of the time ;) and I remember a lot of it fondly. As a senior, I remember that feeling of both being on the front edge of adulthood but also this sense that all of life is still ahead of you. I also remember the stress of school work and wondering where I would end up for college. Do you remember those days?

I got two catch up with two sweet senior girls last weekend to capture this time in their lives. Their personalities were just as lovely as their faces! These girls are not just cousins but very dear friends to one another. When I got asked if I would consider shooting a double senior session, I thought, why not?! What I didn't realize is that it would be an absolute great fit both for these girls and a fun experience for me! Each girl helped the other to bring out her own personality during the shoot. I wish them all the best as they plan for the future!

Today is Part 1: Abby

Our Ten Year Anniversary and our kiddos!

The traditional anniversary gift for the ten year anniversary is tin or aluminum. The modern day gift is diamond jewelry. Thank goodness Matt took the modern approach! He surprised me on our trip with a beautiful anniversary band. Today officially marks a decade of marriage for Matt and I! Although it's hard to believe all that we've been through in the last ten years, it also it hard to believe how quickly life passes us by. On this day ten years ago, I really had no clue other than I was in love and ready to dive in with both feet! I can honestly say though that I love Matthew more today than I did that day. It's the kind of love that has been stretched and tested. It's the kind of love that endures.

Although today is our anniversary, I had planned to finally blog a photo session of our kiddos from June. I think it appropriate to celebrate on this day a bit of the blessing of these past ten years, some of the biggest blessings being our four children.

"Children are a gift from the Lord;
they are a reward from him.
Children born to a young man
are like arrows in a warrior’s hands.
How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them!"

Psalm 127: 3-4

Can I just confess too that as a photographer, it can be a struggle to take photos of my own kids. This was actually a spur of the moment photo session right before bedtime one night, so I am lucky it worked at all. It was a combination of bribing, being silly and threatening to make this happen :) I confess that I always feel pressure to have amazing photos of my own family but sometimes life just doesn't work that way! I am thankful though for the times that we push through and just make it happen! Have a great weekend friends!

Delaware Beach Portraits

“The sun and the sand and a drink in my hand with no bottom /

And no shoes, no shirt, and no problems.” - Kenny Chesney

The beach has always been one of my favorite places and Kenny Chesney is usually the perfect sound track to any ocean adventure! I grew up on the Delaware shores between Fenwick and Lewes, depending on the summer. Naturally I am excited when a family contacts me to capture their memories on the beach!

When this beautiful family from NY contacted me in the cold of spring, I could only imagine what July would feel like on the beach. I had the pleasure of doing their large family session while the extended family was all here in DE for vacation over July 4th week. We broke the session down into smaller family groups as well, so not to overwhelm this blog post I will just share a handful! Happy summer!

9 months

For this morning's confessions, I am doing a little reflecting over the past 9 months with being a family of 6. I still have to remind myself sometimes, "I have four kids!" I used to think that was a silly excuse for being at overwhelmed at life,  but now I GET IT. Having kids of any number of children is a huge explanation for lots of things...like lateness, tiredness and being scatter brained among other things. Some people are amazing and flawless with multiple children, but that's not me! I wish I had it more together with every month of photos for this kid but I am taking what I can get at this point! Here's a few photos of our sweet chunky little man on his 9 month birthday last weekend (and yes it was less than 24 hours before his little hospital adventure! He likes to keep life interesting :)

I am learning in this season in life to embrace the feeling that I can't do it all. It seems so counter productive but it's actually very freeing. I need to do my primary roles and let other things just fall to the periphery. I am doing the very best I can to serve clients, take care of my family and myself. I have found it honestly very hard to keep up taking good care of myself but I take it all one day at a time. Today a workout and a shower are on the schedule!

A helpful scripture that I have been pondering is found in Psalm 61,

"I cry to you for help
    when my heart is overwhelmed.
Lead me to the towering rock of safety,
for you are my safe refuge"

So thankful that we serve a God that is our help, our refuge and can help when we are overwhelmed!

So although some moments I wish for time to just slow down, I will just have to embrace each day to the fullest right now. As I collapse into bed each night, I will do my best to forgive my failures from the day as well as seeing all the things I have to be grateful for! As Shauna Niequist says, "Present over perfect." (Can't wait for her book to release!)

Sweet Newborn C

Babies always tend be on their own timeline. The story of little mister C is one of him having his own agenda when he decided to come three weeks early! We thankfully had gotten in his mama's maternity session the weekend before he came. We had debated because it was brutally cold weather and now we are so thankful we stuck to the plan or else we would have missed the chance to do belly shots entirely! I am going to post these blogs a little bit backwards because I am sharing the newborn this week and will share the maternity next week. This is a sweet little reminder  that life doesn't always work on our plan or time table but we can embrace it all the same! Welcome to the world sweet little man!

The B Family

If you've been around at all on this blog you've heard me talk about me balancing priorities. This past fall I was busy photographing and serving clients but my blogging fell by the wayside. I thankfully was able to learn a new system in my blogging that should hopefully remedy this in the future a little more!

Here is a family session that's way over due for sharing! I loved these images and the kids were such good sports about being photographed that is made it all the more fun for me. It's kind of funny too in Delaware if you talk long enough, you learn of more and more people that you have in common! We enjoyed a beautiful fall day this past November for this session in Smyrna, DE while we chatted about friends we knew and had fun with the kiddos. I absolutely loved the styling of their clothing as well, it worked perfectly for their gang and made for beautiful color in the foliage.

The H Family

Hello friends, I am desperately behind in blogging everything I have been photographing this fall! I am challenging myself to get on it over the next few weeks. So feasible right with the dawn of the holiday season? Oh well, I love to challenge myself :)

I hope you enjoy this adorable family we captured on a beautiful fall morning! We met earlier this year when I photographed Megan's brothers wedding. It was so fun to see them again and enjoy a family session together. Isn't their little man so handsome?! Have a happy Thanksgiving everyone!

A mama and her boys!

What can I say? There is always something special about photographing a mother and her sons! This session was autumn perfection with the leaves turning and a slight chill in the air. I love some of the connections we got between mother and son, as well as between brothers. I confess I did ask them at one point if they ever wrestled and who won....they immediately had to demonstrate :) Not to mention, these are some precious boys! Don't you just want to reach out and squeeze their cheeks?!

A Sweet 6 months Session

Life has a way of speeding past us doesn't it? I remember chatting with a mama friend about doing a newborn session and then she said, "we might just wait until he's 6 months for a session." Can I just say that I think that was the best decision ever?! I know those newborn days are sweet but I swear when I say this, the 6 months age is one of my favorite! The personality of the child starts to come through but they cannot yet escape you :) I enjoyed this 6 month session immensely because precious baby J could actually interact with me! I am way more into clients I can interact with, nothing against sweet sleeping newborns. What's not to love about the adorable world travel nursery as well?! I confess I also struggled to choose what to share so hopefully his mama & daddy don't mind me sharing so many!

 Such a beautiful family!

The J Family

Hello friends! I honestly did not mean to miss blogging for an entire month but I have to be honest about priorities these days. Obviously my business is a priority but going on shoots and servicing clients is first. Blogging is a great way for me to share what I have been up to but it sometimes falls lower on the list and at the end of the day, I just don't get to it! I have missed it though and I will surely have some confessions next week! One of my recent shoots is the adorable J family! I have been honored to photograph them over the last 4 years each fall and document the growth of their children. I love seeing the changes in the kids and things like missing teeth and special manicures just make my day when photographing families! It certainly reminds me to treasure each season with our family because these days are fleeting!

She's such a beauty...Her daddy might need to make a plan to keep the boys away!

On another note, I feel as though I am in a huge season of growth. Not only has my family and responsibility expanded again, but I am in a personal season of growth. Part of this season of growth is in my creativity and my photographic process. I am pushing myself creatively and trying not get stuck in a creative rut. Part of being a photographer can be that you find a "system" that might work for you but once it feels to familiar or easy, it doesn't feed your creative side as much. I am prayerful that my season of growth spills into my work and is evident!

Sweet Summertime

It's been a whirlwind of a summer already and I am ALWAYS excited when a family contacts me to inquire about getting a photo session. Liz dropped me a note one morning and said, "I was interested in getting our family pictures taken. Just the 5 of us. Didn't think [the place] at the mall could capture some moments like you could." I love this and take it to heart. When a family contacts me to get photos, it's not just for the pretty pictures, but to truly capture the family as they are in this season of their lives!

I mean, have you seen any cuter boys?! I think that Liz & Pete will have to unhook their phone from the wall in their teenage years!! Thankful for a pretty summer morning that worked out to get this session in!
